A large portion of the tech media is made up of Apple fanboys. No matter what Apple does, the fanboys love it. I'm an Apple fan too, but I'm not crazy. I've seen review, after review, after review, tout the iPhone 6 as the best iPhone yet. It might be the best iPhone, but it is not a device you can use one handed no matter how many fanboys say otherwise.
Tim Cook told Charlie Rose the iPhone 6 feels good in the hand. If he means it just feels good to hold it because it feels smooth, then he's right. If he means it feels good in the hand and is easy to use? He's dead wrong. It feels smooth in the hand, but it's too big to use one handed. If you use it without a case you are guaranteed to drop it at some point. It is simply too slippery to hang on to. It's difficult to pick up off the table and you will drop it. Trust me, you will drop it.
Most of the media is raving about it because Apple went bigger. People wanted bigger phones because Samsung trained the public to like bigger displays. But what about Apple's conviction? It was only with the iPhone 5 that Phil Schiller mocked Samsung's large displays while lecturing us about what a phone should be.
What happened to that concept Apple? Samsung happened. The iPhone is no longer just a phone, but a device. People use their phones for much more than phone calls so the term "phone" is a little dated. However, there are a large group of people who still want a phone to be a phone. We don't have to do photo editing on our phone, but we do need to be able to use it one handed. It's sort of like a TV remote. I need to be able to use it one handed without dropping it. I find it hard to even reach my notifications on the iPhone 6. It's irritating.
To help with the slippery feel I use a couple of slim cases. Both the Ringke slim case and Spigen slim case work well and help with gripping your phone.
If you don't care about one handed use then the iPhone 6 is a very nice phone. I just wish Apple had not left everyone out in the cold who likes smaller devices. I am using my iPhone 5S for now.

"But why would design it that way? What is the design center for a phone? It's this. It's your hand. A phone should feel great in your hand, and more importantly should be easy to use with this magical device we all carry called a horizontally opposed thumb. It does most of the hard work for us. So when you carry your phone it should fit beautifully in your hand. It should be easy to send messages, type emails, surf the web, and that's just how we designed iPhone 5."
