If your Kindle won't charge there are several solutions online, but after all of those failed I found a way to bring it back to life. My Kindle 3 Graphite wouldn't charge and no matter what I tried I couldn't get it to work. I called Amazon and they said they would send me a more powerful charger. That was fine except I was sitting in a hotel at a resort and would not receive the charger for days. It got me thinking though, what about my iPad charger? It worked with a few tricks.
I plugged my Kindle in for 30 minutes on a regular charger and I still got the "Empty Battery" screen. Then I plugged in the iPad charger and the yellow light came on, but then went off. Sometimes the yellow light would come on for a few seconds, then start blinking, then go off. The support rep I talked to said that might mean it wasn't taking a charge, and likely would not take a charge no matter how long I left it plugged in.
I tried holding the power button for 20 seconds as the instructions say, but nothing happened. Then I noticed that every time I held the power button down for 20 seconds the yellow light would turn on again, then go off. I kept repeating the process of holding the power button for 20 seconds just to get the yellow light to come on. I did it over and over thinking every time the yellow light came on the battery was getting a tiny charge. After about 7 times, the yellow light stayed on. I left the charger in for 50 minutes and wuala! My Kindle came back to life.
Make sure you keep the Kindle plugged in for at least an hour if you're using an iPad or Amazon Kindle charger. If you're simply plugging it into a USB adapter, keep it plugged in for 2-3 hours before deciding the Kindle is dead. Keep holding the power button down for 20 seconds until the yellow light comes back on and stays on. Remember, if the yellow light is not on it's not charging. You need to keep that yellow light on as long as you can.
Good luck!
