RIM has confirmed their purchase of Documents To Go maker DataViz. In a statement to CNET RIM said:
"RIM has acquired some of the assets of DataViz and hired the majority of its employees to focus on supporting the BlackBerry platform. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but the transaction was not material to RIM in the context of RIM’s financial results."
DataViz has been THE standard in making documents available on mobile platforms for years. WebOS users were seriously out of luck earlier in the year when DataViz had to stop development of a Documents To Go for WebOS because Palm was in such a serious financial crisis. Now, the picture becomes even more unclear as RIM now controls DataViz. Will DataViz continue to support other platforms like Windows Mobile, iOS, and Android? Stay tuned.
