I've heard a lot of people talk about the Incase Origami Workstation. I've watched several reviews on YouTube and heard many people say nice things about it. I thought I would prefer something like the ZaggFolio or Logitech Ultra Thin Keyboard Cover because they would connect the iPad to the keyboard and function more like a laptop, but I was wrong.
The problem with Folio cases is that they work great when you want to use the keyboard, but what about when you want to use the iPad in other ways? What if you want to play a game, or watch a movie, or listen to music? I've used the folio-type cases and I kept wishing I had my Smart Cover with me so I could prop up my iPad in a certain way, or take the iPad with me without the keyboard.
The Incase Origami Workstation solved my problem in a masterful way. First of all, I get to use the best keyboard out there for the iPad -- the Apple Wireless Keyboard. It's simply the best keyboard for the iPad because it's wider than the iPad. Folio cases with keyboards are limited to the width of the iPad. That makes the keys much closer together and harder to use. Yes, those keyboards are probably better than the onscreen keyboard, but if you're a serious writer, you want the Apple Wireless Keyboard. It just feels much more like a laptop or desktop.
I will admit that it can be a hassle to carry my iPad AND the Origami Workstation. Setting it up is not quite as quick as flipping open a folio, but it's not a big deal. I just keep both items in my backpack and I'm ready to go. Also, consider the fact that I can keep a back cover on my iPad so when I'm carrying only my iPad it is still protected.
The Origami Workstation feels surprisingly solid when sitting on a desk. It's made of a hard, flexible plastic that resembles Apple's original iPad case. The keyboard snaps into the case so it's not going anywhere. The iPad rests at a comfortable angle and touching the screen does not move the Origami. It's quite sturdy. You can rest your iPad in portrait or landscape mode and both work great.
The Origami sells for $29.95, but you need to already have an Apple Wireless Keyboard, or purchase one for $69.99. The bundle will cost you $100 if you don't already have the keyboard. That is expensive, but it is in the range of other iPad keyboards. Keep in mind, the most important thing about buying an iPad keyboard case or cover is the keyboard must feel good to you. If you don't like typing on the keyboard you will not be happy with your purchase. In my case, I use an Apple Wireless Keyboard on my desktop so I get the same experience on my Mac, MacBook Air, and iPad. It’s well worth the price if you want to use your iPad for typing long documents.
I highly recommend the Incase Origami Workstation for Apple Wireless Keyboard. In my view, the origami workstation with Apple's wireless keyboard is the best iPad keyboard solution.
