Why would we want a phone running Ubuntu? One of the most anticipated features of the new Ubuntu phone is the ability to connect it to an external monitor , mouse, and keyboard. Imagine a world where you carry one device that becomes your desktop and your mobile. The Ubuntu phone is said to be able to run Windows applications through a connection to a server. That would give it huge advantages over the smartphones that we use today.
October is a long way away and who knows what's coming down the pike. There are so many new versions of Android coming out all the time and it's conceivable that Android could do something similar in the near future. We'll see.
