During their recent analyst call, Handspring officially announced plans to cut the Treo 90 and Treo 180 devices from their line of handhelds. The Treo 90 has already been unlisted at handspring.com and prices have been cut $100 by retailers. In some cases the Treo 90 has been reportedly selling under $100.
Handspring's plan is to phase out both units over the course of the first quarter of 2003. This will most likely mean more price cuts as the quarter goes on. Handspring cited stiff competition at the Treo 90's price point.
Handspring also went on to say that while sales of the other Treo Communicators have not been quite as good as expected, they have made solid progress in the enterprise market.
The company plans to place its attention to the communicator series with new units to be announced soon. They have been negotiating with wireless carriers who will carry their devices so expect some announcements soon.
