If you're one of the people who have jailbroken your iPhone running iOS 5 you can take advantage of a new app in Cydia. Vexillum allows you to customize the notification banners you see when you receive a text message, email, etc. Vexillum allows you to customize the background color as well as the font color of your notifications.
The app is pretty simple to use. Once installed, you'll find its features in your Settings app. It is there you can choose the colors you want for your notifications.

Apple declined to break down iPhone sales by model when it released its financials, but a recent survey conducted by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners did it for us. It turns out that most people shopping for a new iPhone choose the 4S. In fact, 89% of U.S. consumers who bought an iPhone between October 14 (iPhone 4S launch day) and December 2011 chose the 4S, while 7% chose the iPhone 4, and 4% bought a 3GS. Fairfax Financial Holdings doubles stake in RIM after Prem Wasta joins board

It appears that some people still believe in RIM. Bloomberg reports that Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd., has doubled its stake in RIM. Fairfax is run by Canadian investor Prem Wasta who recently joined the RIM board.
Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd., the insurer run by Canadian investor Prem Watsa, doubled its stake in Research In Motion Ltd. in a vote of confidence in the BlackBerry maker after Watsa joined the company’s board.

Apple to give employees $500 off Macs, $250 off iPads

Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly told employees in a town hall meeting today, that the company will be giving them a new benefit - $500 off a new Mac, or $250 off a new iPad. The new discount program will begin in June and all Apple employees who have worked at the company for at least 90 days are eligible. One major caveat is, they can only take advantage of this discount once every three years.

Microsoft paid Nokia $250 million for Windows Phone in Q4 2011

Microsoft's deal with Nokia was widely seen as a win win for both companies because they both needed each other. Nokia's once dominant and untouchable position at the top of the cell phone market was giving way to Apple and Google, and Microsoft was completely left out of the smartphone game for awhile. No details were given at the time of the deal, but now Nokia's financials shed some light on the deal between the two companies.

Did you miss the HP fire sale of the TouchPad? If you're still in the market for a TouchPad, Woot is now selling refurbished TouchPads. Although they're not as cheap as HP's $99 fire sale, they are still a pretty good deal if you really like the TouchPad.
Woot is offering the 16GB version for $169, and the 32 GB version for $219. New RIM CEO clarifies remarks about change

Newly appointed RIM CEO, Thorsten Heins, sat down with Crackberry to clarify some remarks he made about the company. You'll remember that Mr. Heins suggested RIM did not need to change much to be able to succeed. Those comments were seen by many to be a signal that another insider with the same view as the previous CEOs was in charge, and that RIM would not make the changes necessary to keep up with Android and iOS. A new study suggests that most BlackBerry users are older, more affluent, and have their cell phone bill paid by their employer. The data appears to come from comScore Data Germ.
BlackBerry users over indexed in all age segments 35-64 in November 2011, with the 55-64 age bracket showing the highest index of 120. BlackBerry audiences were also more likely to have a household income greater than $75k when compared to average smartphone owners.

Jon Rubinstein leaves HP

The former CEO of Palm and the father of webOS, Jon Rubinstein, has left HP. AllThingsD reported Mr. Rubinstein's tenure at HP is over, effective today. Mr. Rubinstein agreed to a 12-24 month tenure when HP acquired Palm, and he has fulfilled that obligation. “Jon has fulfilled his commitment and we wish him well,” HP spokeswoman Mylene Mangalindan said.
Rubinstein has no immediate plans for the future, but it looks like he's taking a little break.

The high-fashion phone has some decent specs including dual-core processor, 8MP camera, and ultra-bright NOVA display. AT&T reported its best ever quarter and it was largely due to the iPhone. The fourth quarter of 2011 saw a 3.6% increase over the same quarter the year before. The company reported $32.5 billion in revenue, but still posted a loss of $6.7 billion.
AT&T activated 9.4 million mobile phones during the quarter, and 7.6 million of them were iPhones.

We've heard rumors of the BlackBerry 2012 roadmap this week, but now we have some solid evidence. BGR has gotten its hands on the official roadmap as well as some internal slides, which they published for the world to see. It looks like the original rumors were largely true.
