Could Froyo be coming to the Sprint EVO tomorrow? Engadget is reporting that the EVO could be getting the update as soon as tomorrow, but most EVO devices will probably see an update August 1.

RIM and AT&T have scheduled an event for next Tuesday and the world is expecting the launch of OS 6, and the Slider. Research in Motion may have just dropped a big hint about their upcoming tablet plans. As the screencap clearly shows, the company registered the domain blackpad.com on July 8, 2010. This doesn't tell us much that we didn't already know, except the name of course. It looks like RIM is following Apple's lead in referring to their tablet as a "pad."

Google is taking on services like Yelp with its new Places icon in Android phones. Google has updated its Maps app to version 4.4. The big news in this version is the Places icon that will help you find places like restaurants, bars, etc. near you. It's a location based service that can really come in handy the next time you're in a city you are not familiar with.

The Android Market on the Sprint EVO has been updated. Previously there were three links at the top for Apps, Games, and Downloads. The Downloads link contained all of the apps previously installed on the device.

First India questioned the BlackBerry's security and demanded a backdoor to the devices encryption. Now, The United Arab Emirates is calling BlackBerry devices a potential security risk.
Because the BlackBerry data services take place outside the reach of the local carriers, the UAE telecom regulator says, "BlackBerry operates beyond the jurisdiction of national legislation." and may have "serious social, judicial and national security repercussions".

A new government rule announced today makes it legal to jailbreak or root your phone in certain circumstances. In the past it was illegal to skirt technical hurdles that a company places in their products. Today's announcement is big news and could have implications down the road.

HP is moving full steam ahead with its plans for Palm's OS. Despite recently saying that Palm may become a "sub-brand," the company is moving ahead with plans to put webOS on a variety of devices including smartphones, and netbooks.
